All Shortblocks are inspected prior to machining. Rotating assembly is balanced using a CWT 5500 Multi-Bal Digital Balancer. From there, going back to the block- the main studs are installed, block is line-honed using a Sunnen CH100, ensuring the bores are round and not tapered nor oval-shaped. Afterwards, a Rotter H85A does a vertical CNC cylinder hone using a torque plate and ARP head studs to hone to our specific piston-to-wall clearance. Each clearance is designed with fuel and intended application in mind. From there, lifter bores are inspected and honed as needed. An RMC 12VB then surfaces the block (square decking parallel to the centerline of crankshaft). The block is then de-burred, washed, cleaned extensively using bottle brushes and a hot vat north of 140*F. From there it's staged for bearing clearances for main and rod bearings. Piston Ring gaps are then set and filed to spec, pin bores are verified for oil clearance. Lastly, final assembly occurs.
